Poor economic condition and the need to earn a living for the family are a major reason why children are dropping out of secondary school in India. This is especially true for rural children who further suffer from travelling long distances for going to school and the costs associated with it. School dropouts are likely to earn less as adults compared to those who complete their education, thus continuing a cycle of poverty. Lower earnings as adults could have a negative effect on health, access to food and quality of life.

Mai foundation supporting children in rural Maharashtra to continue their education by providing them all-inclusive scholarships. This includes their annual fees and travelling cost. The scholarship helps them continue their education post 10th grade, gain employable skills and become financially independent adults.
